PLUMBER with Security Clearance

Duties - Independently installs, modifies, repairs, and maintains a variety of new and existing utility, supply, and disposal systems and equipment such as sewage, water, oil, and gas distribution systems, and water closets, tubs, backflow prevention devices/assemblies, fire sprinkler systems, and showers- Plans and accomplishes work from initial layout to final assembly which involves interpreting and applying building plans, specifications, blueprints, sketches, and other plumbing guides/codes, and using shop mathematics- Troubleshoots/tests various plumbing systems and equipment including backflow prevention devices such as reduced pressure principal devices, double check devices, atmospheric vacuum breakers, and other cross connection devices- Uses and maintains tools such as tapes, rules, plumb bobs, hand and power pipe threaders, cutters, pipe wrenches, angle drills, hacksaws and power saws, power sewer cleaning equipment, various gas detectors and meters, and lead pots- Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environmentUses and assures proper fit of required safety equipment and clothingRequirements Conditions of Employmento U.SCitizenship Requiredo Males must be registered for Selective Service, see www.sss.govo This posn is subject to provisions of the DoD Priority Placement Programo Disclosure of Political Appointmentso The work may require the employee to drive a motor vehicleAs appropriate, valid driver's license may be required for the position.o As required, may train and/or guide other personnel in performance of plumbing duties.o Shift work may be required.o This is a 'KEY' positionIncumbent(s) must be removed from their military recall status is alternatives for filling the position during an emergency are not available.o Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.o Applicant must have experience at a journeyman's level in the following areas:

Qualifications:
Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-4200 - Plumbing And Pipefitting FamilyAlthough a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applyingQualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of timeThe screen out element for this position is the Ability To Do the Work of a Plumber without More than Normal Supervision JOB ELEMENTS:
Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
o Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, operation, and repair, to include routing, placement, slant, slope, and fall of systems.o Knowledge of technical practices in order to plan, lay out, install, modify, troubleshoot, and repair various systems and equipment.o Knowledge of safety regulations, procedures, and practices.o Skill in installing, modifying, and repairing new and existing utility, supply, and disposal systems and equipment without more than normal supervision.o Skill and ability in using shop mathematics, measurement, and lay out such as angles, arcs, and circles.o Skill in using and maintaining tools and equipment such as rules, levels, plumb bobs, dividers, various gauges and meters, various drain cleaning devices, hydrostatic pumps, and torchesSkill in troubleshooting difficult or hard-to-detect leaks and operating problemsPHYSICAL EFFORT:
The plumber makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms, and where the parts of systems worked on are in hard-to-reach placesThis requires the employee to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positionsThe plumber frequently lifts, carries, and sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 40 pounds unassisted and over 40 pounds with assistanceWORKING CONDITIONS:
The work is done inside and outside and is usually dirty, dusty, and greasyThe plumber is sometimes required to make repairs and installations outside in bad weatherOccasionally makes repairs in areas where bad smelling fumes are presentThe plumber has occasional exposure to the possibility of broken bones and frequent exposure to the possibility of scrapes, burns, and infectionsMay be required to wear safety equipment, such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, and hard hats and other personal protective equipmentPART-TIME OR UNPAID
